Description and characteristics

The variety is early ripe, the first fruits ripen 40-45 days after the emergence of shoots. Cucumbers 6-10 cm long, with a bumpy surface and black thorns, dense pulp. They can be eaten fresh, excellent for pickling and pickling. Pickling is possible - fruits up to 5 cm long.

"Parisian gherkin" refers to bee-pollinated varieties, therefore it is intended for cultivation in the open field. Growing in greenhouses and on balconies is possible, but to obtain a crop, you need to provide access to the required number of insects or to carry out artificial pollination on your own. From grown fruits you can collect seed for next season.

The plant produces shoots of medium length and moderate climbing, which are best tied up as it grows. This will free up land and make it easier to approach for watering and harvesting, and foliage and fruits will receive more sunlight, which has a positive effect on productivity.

From the description of the culture, the following advantages of the variety can be distinguished, thanks to which the cucumber gained rapid and widespread distribution:

  • fairly high yield - 3-4 kg from 1 m2;
  • exceptional taste - the plant gives sweetish crispy fruits without bitterness with a pronounced aroma;
  • long and even fruiting within 2 months;
  • good tolerance to drought and heat;
  • high resistance to diseases (powdery mildew, cladosporiosis, mosaic virus);
  • long shelf life;
  • excellent transport portability.

This variety of cucumbers has practically no drawbacks. An important feature: it is necessary to collect the fruits daily, since when overripe, they quickly pass into the stage of casking (gain excessive thickness), lose taste and slow down the formation of new ovaries.

For summer residents who rarely visit their plots and cannot harvest cucumbers every day, the "Parisian Gherkin" is not suitable. Better to choose other varieties.

Landing time and rules

Before planting, self-collected seeds must be sorted out, select full-weight and dense ones, carry out preparatory manipulations with them: for 20 minutes, disinfect in a weak solution of salt or potassium permanganate to prevent the appearance of diseases, treat with a growth stimulator to accelerate germination.

Purchased seeds are usually already coated with protective and nutritional compounds and are ready to plant. On the packaging with such material there are marks “coated” or “inlaid”. Seeds prepared at production have almost one hundred percent similarity and show earlier fruiting.

Future bushes are placed on the beds according to the 50 by 30 cm scheme. The seeds are buried into the soil by 3 cm, 2-3 pieces per hole. In case of germination, all are carefully thinned out the planting. You need to plant cucumbers in the soil warmed up to +15 ° C, focusing on the weather conditions in the region.

Optimal terms for central Russia:

  • to the greenhouse - the first week of May;
  • in beds with temporary cover with plastic wrap - May 10-15;
  • in open ground - the end of May, when the threat of night frosts has passed.

To accelerate fruiting by 2 weeks, you can prepare seedlings in advance:

  1. place the seeds between layers of wet gauze, put in a container, cover with glass or transparent film, put in a warm place for germination for 2-3 days;
  2. prepare containers with a diameter of 8-10 cm with drainage holes and light soil;
  3. plant the seeds that have hatched, keep the pots with seedlings in a bright warm place - on the windowsill or under phytolamps;
  4. when 2-3 leaves appear on the sprouts, dive the plants into open ground, 4 pieces per 1 m2.

Cucumbers grow well in areas where tomatoes, legumes, and potatoes were placed last season.

How to care?

Cucumbers "Parisian gherkin" - an unpretentious variety that does not require special care. Like other cucumbers, this species needs abundant watering with warm water during the formation of the fruit. During the period of deciduous mass and flowering, the amount of moisture in the soil should be moderate so that rotting does not begin.

Watering is carried out in the morning or evening, after sunset. Do not allow water to enter the casting of the plant. It is also necessary to remove weeds and carry out regular loosening of the soil around the bush to provide oxygen to the root system.

Before the ovary appears, it is recommended to feed the bushes twice with a break of 10 days. For processing 1 m2 prepare a solution: 0.5 tablespoon of urea, sulfate and superphosphate for 5 liters of warm water. The high resistance of the variety to common diseases allows you to abandon the treatment with chemicals and get an environmentally friendly product.

When grown in greenhouses, artificial pollination is carried out. To do this, you need to be able to identify female and male flowers. Most of the flowers of this variety develop according to the female pattern - at the base there is an ovary in the form of a small cucumber, male peduncles do not have such a feature.

The procedure is carried out in one of the ways:

  • pick the male flower and touch the female flower with it so that the stamens and pistils touch;
  • with a cotton swab, gently run over the stamens of the male flower, and then along the pistils of the female.
