New design every summer

Annuals come in a wide variety of shapes and sizes, this gives unlimited scope for the imagination of the florist. You can make a multi-tiered flower bed: creeping plants along the edges, in the middle of the ledge or figures of different heights and colors. If you want to please the children - make a hut of bindweed, nasturtium and a scented pot, twisting on a wooden frame. These plants will help to decorate unsightly shed walls, ugly fence. Gloomy areas, which almost do not get the sun's rays, will revive bright shade-loving flowers: begonia, matthiola, ageratum.

Annual flowers don't just decorate the site, they can improve mood and well-being. The sight of green stems, strewn with flowers of blue-lilac-blue shades, will relieve nervous tension, calm an aggressive person. In a hot summer, this flower bed will create a feeling of freshness and coolness. Plant cornflowers in open ground, periwinkle, Ipomoya, Snapdragon - such a place can become a corner for tranquility, meditation. A red-yellow flower garden with a stock-rose will help to overcome depression and apathy, marigolds, calendula.

Ordinary unpretentious annuals that bloom for a long time can turn into a real picture, for example, a coat of arms for your site. It is difficult to involve children in caring for plants, but if they have their own flower bed with the character of their favorite cartoon, they will gladly weed and water the flowers. Can't draw? Start with Kolobok: Sow the soil around the edges with light flowers for the background, in the middle plant a bright yellow circle of marigolds, two cornflower bushes for eyes, several red inflorescences will turn into a mouth. The main thing is to start, over time you will learn how to mark planting patterns and create complex compositions. Next summer, you will come up with a different pattern, and then create a whole carpet with intricate patterns.

Advice

There is no need to plant tall flowers close to paths and places where children play: long stems can be accidentally hit by a bucket or basket and broken.

Knowing the time when annual flowers bloom and close can create interesting colorful effects. Even in ancient Rome, people recognized the time by plants, and Karl Linnaeus made a real flower clock. To create such a structure, you need to observe for a long time, collect information about which flowers open their petals and close for rest when they open. No tables will help you, in each area the plants live according to their own schedule. Do not be lazy to write down at what hour this or that flower opens, and next summer you can create a flower bed with unusual effects: in the morning it will be yellow, and then spots, circles or squares of other shades will appear on this background.

In the southern area, you can sow seeds of petunia, stock-rose, viola, marigolds and other annual flowers directly into the ground, which are recommended to be grown through seedlings in colder regions. You can supplement the flower garden with medicinal, spicy and edible crops, many of them bloom very beautifully all summer. Several sunflowers can be made the center of the flower bed composition, their long stems can become a support for low climbing plants. Physalis will decorate the site with bright lanterns, and then the whole winter there will be twigs hung with orange cones in the vase.

In order not to waste money, before going to the store, draw out the diagrams of flower beds and flower beds and think about what annual heights and colors you need. It is better for novice flower growers not to purchase exotic plants; start the first summer with flowers that are familiar to you from childhood. It is not necessary to sow a flower bed with many species, try to create a composition only from snapdragons or cornflowers, taking varieties of different heights and colors.

Watering annuals

What do flowers want from you?

Almost all annuals that bloom all summer love the sun, so set up a flower garden in a well-lit area. The more fertile the soil and the brighter the sun, the more magnificent and colorful the flowerbed will be. Use the soil near the house for flowers: during repairs and painting, various chemicals drip into it, such soil is not suitable for food crops. Dig up the ground well, apply manure, compost and complex fertilizers. Moisten the soil, sow seeds that can be grown without seedlings, and cover with foil or non-woven material to help sprout faster.

When the seeds germinate, the work of caring for the flower garden will consist of several simple operations:

  • watering;
  • loosening;
  • top dressing;
  • weeding;
  • pest control;
  • removal of dried inflorescences.

Pull out withered and diseased specimens in time, they not only spoil the look of the flower bed, but also serve as a source of infection. The inflorescences that have finished blooming must be cut off, this operation will give the plant an incentive to release new buds. Do not forget to loosen the soil after watering so that a crust does not form.

Plants that bloom all summer spend a lot of energy on bud development. Do not let the soil dry out, only with moisture can the roots take nutrients from the soil. For feeding, you can use organic matter: slurry, herbal infusion, or you can buy a complex fertilizer for flowers... Do not overdo it with nitrogen fertilizers, they contribute to the rapid development of greenery, there may be few flowers.
