Cucumbers Nezhinsky

Characteristic

The cucumber owes its name to the city of Nizhyn in Ukraine. The variety has a rich history that dates back to the 17th century. From tsarist times to the Soviet Union, a large proportion of the area was allocated for planting Nezhinsky cucumbers. They remain relevant now: a monument has even been erected to the variety.

Cucumbers are designed more for outdoor cultivation, but will withstand greenhouse conditions if a favorable environment is created to attract pollinators. Average yield per 1 m2 - 5 kg.

How to grow: planting and care certificate

Cucumber Nezhinsky loves fertile soil. Before planting in the fall, it is recommended to dig up the site and fertilize with manure. The introduction of humus will make clay soils looser and more suitable for planting crops.

Crop rotation rule: cucumbers plant a field of potatoes, cabbage, tomatoes. It is better not to plant after melons. If previously cucumbers grew in this place and a disease of the culture was found, then another site should be chosen.

Seeds of Nezhinsky cucumber are often sown directly on the site, but seedling cultivation is also possible. It is better to plant seeds in the ground in spring, starting from mid-May. Before immersion in the soil, they are treated with a solution of potassium permanganate - this measure will prevent the development of certain diseases.

Planting layout: at least 30 cm between holes, 60 cm between rows.

How to care for a plant?

  • The most difficult thing is the formation of an indeterminate stem. Before planting, you need to think about the support for the bush. Main whip pinches above the 7-9th leaf, this accelerates the formation of lateral shoots with female flowers. Before the 5th sheet, all stepsons and ovary. In the axils of the 5th and 6th leaves, shoots of 20 cm are left.In the 7th and 8th axils, the length of the shoots is preserved up to 40 cm.The shoots located above are cut off to 50 cm.
  • Watering is plentiful, on average once every 1-2 days. The water should be warm. The jet is directed to the root.Drops are not allowed to fall on the leaves, this is fraught with rotting.
  • After the emergence of seedlings, top dressing is applied with the main elements - nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium.
  • The soil around the bushes is regularly loosened and cleared of weeds.
  • Mulching is necessary, especially in the early stages of growth. This measure will protect the roots from drying out.
  • When the fruits begin to appear, the bushes are fed with manganese fertilizer.
  • It is recommended that the grown fruits be immediately plucked from the bush, so the plant will direct its forces to the formation of new ones.

What is noted on the garden forums:

  • An excellent variety for open ground, well pollinated. Formation is within the normal range, if you figure it out, everything is quite simple. Productivity is stable for more than one season.
  • When salted, cucumbers retain their density. They look beautiful in a jar and taste some of the best.
  • The lower leaves should not touch the ground - this is fraught with the development of fungal diseases.
  • There are a lot of fruits, enough for salads and salting.
