How to independently treat a summer cottage from mosquitoes

Content

Mosquitoes threaten not only painful bites that cause allergic reactions, but also the likelihood of contracting an infectious disease. The fight against them should be carried out in a comprehensive manner - it is important not only to treat the area from mosquitoes with an insecticide, but also to take measures to prevent their reappearance in large quantities.

Preparation of a solution for spraying the area

Use of chemicals

Mosquitoes lay their eggs in stagnant water, where the larvae develop to adulthood. Puddles, gutters, bathing and drinking containers for pets can be a breeding ground for mosquitoes in your garden. It is important to empty potentially hazardous areas as soon as they are filled with rainwater and change the water regularly for your pets.

The choice of an insecticide for self-processing of a summer cottage or personal plot must be carried out taking into account the following factors:

  • the presence of a reservoir - in this case, you need to use a product for conditions of high humidity;
  • relief of the site - shaded areas need more careful processing or the use of a high concentration solution, since insects are more likely to lay larvae there;
  • density of vegetation - for trees and shrubs, it is also required to use a more concentrated and, accordingly, toxic solution.

The active substance found in almost all anti-mosquito chemicals is cypermethrin.

The most popular and proven drugs:

  • "Tsifox". Also used to control cockroaches and bedbugs.
  • Medilis Ziper. Suitable for indoor use. For the treatment of open areas, a solution is prepared - 2-5 ml per 1 liter of water, depending on the density of the vegetation.
  • "Sipaz Super". The concentration of the working mixture is 3-8 ml per liter of water. Consumption - liter per hundred square meters. The drug is harmful to honey bees, therefore, the treatment should be carried out in the evening, when the bees no longer fly.
  • "Agran". An effective product for the treatment of areas near water bodies or in the presence of groundwater.
  • "Doctor Claus". Available as a ready-to-use spray.

Site processing rules

It is necessary to prepare the composition for chemical disinfestation in accordance with the attached instructions and dosage recommendations, preferably just before processing - the shelf life of most working solutions is no more than 12 hours. A garden sprayer is used for spraying.

It is necessary to carry out the treatment in the established dry and calm weather in the early morning or late evening. Chemicals should not be sprayed in the midday heat so as not to harm the plants. It is useful to inquire about the weather forecast beforehand - to achieve the best effect after spraying, there should be no rain for 3 days.

Complex treatment is effective for a period from 1 to 2, 5 months, depending on the frequency of rain and the presence of a nearby reservoir.

Insecticides are harmful to the buds - it is highly undesirable for the solution to get on them. It is recommended to carry out processing before the beginning of flowering plants, otherwise gardeners risk being left without a crop.

There is no anti-mosquito chemical that is completely safe for humans and animals yet. If you decide to spray the territory yourself, it is important to observe the following rules:

  • not to allow people and animals to be on the treated area during work and on the next day;
  • mow the grass in advance, remove fallen leaves;
  • wrap water storage containers tightly with foil;
  • tightly close doors and vents in the house and outbuildings;
  • spraying should be carried out in clothing that fully protects the body.

Harvesting on the treated area can be done in 20-40 days, depending on the toxicity of the drug.

Most anti-mosquito preparations rid the area of other insects (midges, ticks, ants), including useful ones, such as bees. Many products are also harmful to fish. If you have an apiary or a pond, you should use insecticides very carefully.

Essential oils

Herbal and temporary remedies

Eco-friendly methods of dealing with blood-sucking insects are safe for humans and the environment, but less effective. They can be used as a temporary measure to deter mosquitoes in the area or as an additional means of protection and prevention after chemical treatment.

  • Essential oils.

Mosquitoes cannot stand the smells of lavender, thyme, eucalyptus, tea tree, cloves, basil, anise. Aroma lamps are placed on the site at a distance of several meters from each other. They wipe furniture and surfaces on open verandas and gazebos with a napkin moistened with essential oil. Such measures will allow you to get several hours of quiet rest. As long as the smell lasts, insects won't bother you.

  • Plants that give off odors that are unpleasant for mosquitoes.

Calendula, mint, marigold, thyme, tomatoes, cloves, chamomile will help create a natural defense against mosquitoes and at the same time beautify the site.

  • Plastic bottle trap.

It is made easily and quickly from available tools. You need to cut off the top of the container, at the bottom, mix 1 cup of warm water and 2 tablespoons of sugar. After the liquid has cooled, add 1 gram of yeast. Set the cut off top into the base upside down, wrap the trap in paper and place in a shaded, damp place on the site. Fermentation produces carbon dioxide, which attracts mosquitoes.

  • Homemade sticky bait strips.

The dense paper base is coated with a compound that smells attractive to mosquitoes. The components of each recipe must be melted in a water bath and hot applied to paper strips, hung on trees and in resting places.

The first version of the composition is rosin, castor oil, turpentine, sugar syrup in a ratio of 4: 2: 1: 1.

The second option is pine resin, linseed oil, honey, beeswax in a ratio of 2: 1: 5: 1.

  • Ultraviolet lamps.

Insects fly to the light source, hit the grid under voltage and die. The devices are effective only at night.

  • Ultrasonic repellents.

Working at a frequency safe for humans, they scare away mosquitoes. Compact models can be carried with you, stationary with a range of up to 50 m2 located on the site.
Juniper Bonfire
Temporary funds will allow you to enjoy being in nature for several hours:

  • smoke fumigators in the form of a match or a spiral for open spaces - it is advisable to purchase sets designed for a large area;
  • the addition of coniferous cones, juniper branches, odorous herbs to the fire for enhanced release of aromatic substances.

Modern means and complex processing will rid the garden plot of annoying and dangerous mosquitoes. However, in order to achieve results, it is necessary to choose the right drugs and carry out pest control in compliance with all requirements. If you are not confident in your abilities, you can turn to specialists who, in addition to experience, have at their disposal professional equipment and strong substances.
