Sowing rules for microgreens

Microgreen (the second name is microgreen) of radish has a slightly pungent taste and spicy aroma. Sprouts can be used as an additive to vegetable salads, meat dishes, as an ingredient for sandwiches.

Necessary equipment and materials

A wide, low container is required for seeding. Can be used:

  • disposable plastic trays of suitable size;
  • ceramic or glass baking dishes;
  • special sprouters in the form of a pallet with a mesh insert.

If using a regular tray, fill it with peat substrate or other material used as a substrate. The earth can be replaced:

  • linen rugs;
  • jute hay;
  • mineral wool;
  • coconut fiber;
  • gauze (in several layers).
  • vermiculite.

When using a sprouting device, clean water is poured into the pan, and the seeds are laid out on a grid. Water needs to be changed daily. In the event that a substrate is used, it must be moistened.

Sowing procedure

The seeds are pre-soaked in purified water at room temperature for several hours. To prevent the development of mold in the future, you can add hydrogen peroxide from the pharmacy to the water (1 tsp per glass of water). After that, they start sowing:

  1. seeds are spread over the surface of the substrate in a dense layer;
  2. crops are irrigated from a sprayer with water;
  3. the container is covered with a lid or foil with holes for air access.
  4. the tray is kept in a dark place at a temperature of 20-22 ° C until the seeds germinate.

After the emergence of seedlings, the germinator is rearranged to a well-lit place (closer to the window glass, under the lamp). The greens will be ready for cutting in about a week. The sprouts are cut with sharp scissors and eaten.

Greens can be stored in the refrigerator for a short time. It is better not to store microgreen for a long time, after 1-2 days the cut sprouts begin to lose their healing properties.

More useful varieties are those with intense coloration of leaves and stems. Their advantage is also in their decorative appearance. A container with sprouts can become an independent interior decoration. When grown in the back of the room, microgreens should be illuminated with a fluorescent lamp or phytolamp for at least 12 hours a day.
