How to grow green onions in a large plastic bottle?

Greens are known to decorate any dish. It's not just about our taste buds, but also about our visual perception. When green onion feathers appear on the windowsill in an ordinary plastic bottle in winter, they become a symbol of life itself and tranquility. A miniature vitamin bed will give a fresh spring aroma, which is immediately felt, one has only to pinch off a tubular leaf. Healing phytoncides will quietly do their job.

The second reason why it is better to grow onions yourself: they are guaranteed to be environmentally friendly. After all, why use fertilizers? The bulb has enough vitality to expel the dense leaves. And your own greenery will be a little cheaper than purchased. Yes, its appearance is more appetizing than that of the crumpled bunches from store shelves. • Diseases, which, alas, are susceptible to, and juicy onion feathers, will not be able to freely roam in a vertical garden, since air access to it is better provided than in horizontally crowded plantings.

Creating a flowerpot

Prepare from scrap materials:

• gloves;
• a piece of oilcloth or a large sheet of thick paper so that you can prepare containers on it and fill it with soil;
• scissors (manicure will do);
• if possible - an iron rod or an old soldering iron.

The technology is pretty simple.

1. Mark future cuts with a marker. We must focus on the size of the bulbs: they should, as it were, clog the opening cut in the plastic so that the soil does not wake up. It is preferable to choose a staggered arrangement of onions - this way the plants will not interfere with each other's rise.
2. Cut off the top edge of the bottle, preferably at the point where constant expansion begins. This is necessary so that it is convenient to fill the soil;
3. Use scissors to carefully and carefully cut the holes.
4. Make small holes in the bottom through which excess water will drain into the pan, which will not be absorbed by the soil after watering.

Advice

It is more convenient to do the last procedure with an iron rod hot on the stove, since the plastic at the bottom is thicker. It is not recommended to burn all holes: harmful compounds will be released in large quantities.

Stages of planting bulbs

The prepared bottle is placed vertically, drainage is laid out on the bottom: expanded clay, small pebbles, large crumbs of broken brick.Fill in the first layer of soil - before the beginning of the strip of holes. It must be sprinkled a little with water and compacted, simply pressing down with your hand, so that later it does not sag. The bulbs are laid out so that half or a smaller part of their body comes out through the holes. They will become a kind of corks so that the soil does not spill out of the flowerpot.

The bulbs are covered with soil until the next row of plantings. At the top, a free space of 1.5-2 cm is left, since during germination the roots will lift the earth and it can wake up down onto the pallet. The bulbs are planted on top. Or you can close the finished box with a cut part with a lid - as you like.

Advice

It is preferable to buy an earthen mixture in gardening stores: there is a guarantee that there will be no insects that can appear in the warmth from a coma of ordinary soil. Purchased soil is loose, nutrient-rich, specially designed for seedlings.

Selection and preparation of planting material

You can quickly enjoy fresh shoots by choosing the right varieties for forcing. It is easy to germinate any bulb on the window, but you should not take large ones. The maximum diameter of onions for planting on window sills is 2-3 cm. Shallots are very productive for greens, but they are small - accordingly, you must first decide on the type and its size, and then create a flowerpot.

An important part of the work is the preparation of the selected material. All specimens must be put in a bowl with water heated to 40 degrees and put on a battery. There they are heated for a day. The top husk can be removed, and then carefully free the growing point from the dried peel with a knife - then the greens will grow faster.
