Planting dates for black radish and features of its cultivation

Content

Having mistakenly determined the time when to plant black radish with seeds, many summer residents can doom themselves to failure. Despite the fact that black radish itself is an unpretentious crop, planting seeds at unfavorable times can well cause a low yield. In addition, characteristics of the fruit, such as taste and keeping quality, can also suffer from improper planting and crop care.

Before deciding when to plant the radish, you will need to decide on plans for the future harvest. Usually the vegetable can be planted twice per season. The first planting occurs in the spring. Fruit ripe in summer will not be stored for long. Therefore, winter radish is suitable for storage, which is usually sown in July. Planting radish for the winter in woodland falls on the first ten days of July, in the forest-steppe it is necessary to sow radish seeds no later than mid-July, and in the southern lands the crop can be sown until the end of July.

Planting and leaving

Since the plant does not like shade, then when planting a crop, you will need to choose a place with good lighting. It is not recommended to fertilize the soil with fresh manure. Only rotted, mixed with wood ash is suitable. Seeds should be planted in open ground to a depth of 2-3 centimeters. After the first shoots appear, the radish needs care: the soil must be loosened, and the seedlings themselves must be thinned. Plants in the garden should be left 5 centimeters apart. Some time later, re-thinning is carried out. Then the distance between shoots in the open field is increased to 15 centimeters.

Farmers are advised to use mineral fertilizers in the care of radishes for feeding. Organic matter, according to many growers, negatively affects the keeping quality and taste of the fruit. In the phase of 3-4 leaves, the first feeding is carried out. For the second time, the culture is fertilized in the open field a month after the first treatment.

The optimal fertilizer for feeding is a solution of the following components:

  • 10 liters of water;
  • 20 grams of urea;
  • 60 grams of superphosphate;
  • 15 grams of potassium chloride.

Although the radish does not require meticulous care, watering is still very important. Even leaving the crop in dry soil for a short time will significantly reduce the yield and its quality.

When to plant radish in the Urals and Siberia?

The climate of Siberia and the Urals differs sharply from the natural conditions of other regions. This factor must be taken into account when planting radish. To obtain early production, the vegetable is usually planted in Siberia in early May, when the soil has already warmed up enough and the seedlings will not destroy the cold. Early root crops will ripen in 60-70 days. A vegetable for the autumn-winter period of use must be planted before mid-June. Seedlings will appear in a week. And with moist and warm enough soil, the first shoots can be seen already on the 3rd day after planting. Root crops for the winter will ripen in 100-120 days. The cultivation of radish in the Urals and Siberia is the same as in other regions: there are no special features for caring for vegetables.

Tips for planting and growing radishes

  • A rich harvest will help to get such predecessors as potatoes, tomatoes, carrots, cucumbers, beans.
  • In order for the fruits to be large and of the correct shape, it is necessary to maintain the optimal level of frequency of seeding seeds. If you plant a vegetable too thickly, then, most likely, a flower arrow will appear and the roots will be small.
  • The risk of abnormal plant development will also increase if the seeds are planted early.
  • Delay in sowing dates will also harm the harvest.Root crops with the onset of frost lose their beneficial properties, and the pulp of the plant will become stiff.
  • If the garden has wireworm, then you need to collect the fruits of the plant for the winter immediately after the potatoes, so that the pest does not spoil the harvest.
  • The secret to tasty, round and juicy roots lies in the rocking of the plants during active growth. This exercise will help remove the lateral roots, so that the root vegetable will feed from the central root. This method is used by many summer residents when growing radish.

The precursor to the radish: how important is it?

Winter radish can be sown after any predecessor - this root vegetable is really unpretentious. However, there is one exception - you cannot sow radish in the ground where cruciferous plants used to grow. Typical representatives of this family are daikon, radish, cabbage. These plants share pests and diseases in common with radish. The most common pest is the cruciferous flea. Well, if the summer resident mistakenly planted a radish after cabbage or radish, then it is necessary to fight the pest at the first crop sprouting. You can spray plants from cruciferous flea beetles with insecticides "Confidor", "Iskra Gold" and others, such care will give you a chance to get a decent harvest.

So, whether it is necessary to plant black radish in your dacha, each gardener decides for himself. But there are many arguments in favor of this vitamin culture. Unpretentiousness in care, undemanding to the composition of the soil and the beneficial effect of the root crop on the human body, proven for centuries, make it a welcome guest on the tables and in the beds of many Russians.
