Agrotechnical methods of growing spruce Nidiformis

Content

Conifers are considered the most unpretentious, so amateur gardeners use miniature specimens and large-sized plants to create unique compositions in landscape design. Planting Nidiformis spruce will help to decorate rockeries, a small garden. It can be used to create container compositions. Proper care will provide the plant with a beautiful decorative look.

Description of the variety

Norway spruce Nidiformis is a slow-growing dwarf shrub with a round or flattened bush shape. Young shoots look up. If you look closely, this arrangement of branches resembles a nest. And only with the development of the plant does the crown acquire asymmetry. The characteristic properties of a dwarf spruce: short needles, short stature, a spherical bush, abundant branching.

To grow a beautiful plant, a number of conditions must be met and proper care must be taken.

Site selection and soil preparation

Before planting a seedling, you must choose a suitable place for it. A low-growing spruce grows up to 3 m wide, so the selected area should be at least 3 m. The shrub grows very slowly, and in the first years after planting, the free space can be occupied by annuals. It is not recommended to plant perennials, as they will not only take away all the necessary nutrients, but also create shade and thereby negatively affect the development of the spruce.

Nidiformis prefers alkaline or acidic fertile soil. Grows well in moderate humidity. An excess of water can lead to decay, so planting must be accompanied by the creation of a good drainage layer.

It is recommended to plant the shrub in a slightly shaded area, as it is very sensitive to lack of light.

The root system is located in the upper layer of the soil, closer to the surface, so heavy soil is not suitable for planting. Common spruce Nidiformis in such a soil will not receive the necessary nutrients, and such an agrotechnical mistake can lead to oxygen starvation. Conversely, fertile light soil allows the horse system to penetrate deep into the earth.

Plants are planted in places located far from groundwater, since spruce does not tolerate their neighborhood. In such conditions, soaking occurs, and the bush dies.

Advice

If the groundwater on the site runs close to the surface, before planting the spruce, a drainage layer of crushed stone with a thickness of 10-20 cm should be laid.

Planting shrubs for permanent residence

Spruce planting is similar to planting other conifers. The best time for this is spring. Two- and three-year-old seedlings are transplanted from containers along with a clod of earth.

Preparing the landing site

The diameter of the planting hole should be 1.5 times the clod of earth, and the depth depends on the composition of the soil:

  • 80 cm - under the sand;
  • 100 cm - for black soil and clay (of which 20 cm is allocated for the drainage layer).

You should not dig a deep hole, since the roots of the representatives of the variety are superficial, so they still will not penetrate more than 80 cm deep into the ground.

When planting on heavy, clayey soil, it is necessary to arrange drainage with a layer of 20 cm from broken brick or rubble. To avoid stagnant water, it is recommended to pour a layer of sand on top of the drainage layer. If the soil is sandy loam or sandy, there is no need for a drainage device.

The planting hole must be filled with a prepared earth mixture. The soil extracted when digging a hole is usually not used, since it will not be able to give the plant the necessary rooting environment.

Advice

The finished material should be purchased from trusted sellers. This is the only way to be sure of its quality. It is better to buy Nidiformis seedlings with a closed root system - in a container. If seedlings with an open root system are sold, then a clod of earth should be wrapped in burlap. Before buying a plant, you need to ask the sellers if prolonged fertilization has been applied. If not, then during planting it is necessary to add 10 g of ammophoska.

Planting plants in the ground

After finishing the preparatory work, you need to start replanting the Nidiformis spruce.

  1. In order for the lump of the plant to be well saturated with moisture, the seedling must be watered abundantly.
  2. A plant with an open root system is lowered into the pit directly with burlap or netting. It will decompose over time. If the seedling is purchased in a container, the plant should be carefully removed from the pot without damaging the roots.
  3. Next, you need to install the spruce in the hole and align the trunk vertically. To prevent the plant from tilting during the sprinkling of a lump of earth, you can ask someone to help.
  4. Pouring earth into the pit is carried out in parts. After filling the hole 20 cm, the soil should be compacted and watered. Repeat until the hole is completely covered with earth. At the same time, the root collar must remain on the surface, otherwise the plant will gradually wither and die.

Plant care after planting

The first week after planting is the most difficult. At this time, it is necessary to shed the earth with a solution to which a root formation stimulator has been added. Effectively spray needles with a solution of "Epin" or "Zircon". Processing should be abundant so that water flows from the bush. It is worth diluting the drugs in accordance with the instructions. Using the Epin solution, you will increase the plant's resistance to the stinging spring rays.

From February to April, care consists in shading the shrub, covering it with a shade-protective film. It will also protect the plants from the spring sun.

In hot summers, the plant needs more moisture. Watering is needed every week for 1-1.5 buckets under one bush. Young plants require more moisture than adult specimens. For the winter, it is recommended to cover the spruce with spruce branches, and with the arrival of spring it is worth removing the shelter. You can mulch the trunk circle sawdust or torus. An adult ordinary spruce does not require additional shelter, since the variety is resistant to severe frosts.

Twice a season, the shrub is fed with fertilizers for conifers.

Caring for the Nidiformis spruce is not difficult. The main thing is to know what conditions an ordinary spruce prefers, and make every effort to grow a beautiful dwarf tree.
