Characteristics and description of the variety of cucumbers Spring F1

A large number of new hybrid varieties of cucumbers for different growing conditions are not always able to completely replace the old, time-tested ones. One of these old-timers, loved by summer residents, is the cucumber Rodnichok f1. This is a hybrid of still Soviet selection, not giving way to beginners.

Variety history

For more than 40 years, the spring has occupied an honorable place in summer cottages and in greenhouses: the tests of its varietal qualities began in the distant 1974. The authorship belongs to the breeders of Transnistria. At present, the agrofirm "Poisk" is recognized as the originator of the hybrid.

Although the State Register of Breeding Achievements, the Rodnichok cucumber is recommended for cultivation in areas with an unstable climate - the Northern, Northwestern, Volga-Vyatka regions, the Middle Volga, the Northern Caucasus and the Urals - it is successfully grown throughout the territory of the Russian Federation and in Belarus - for personal purposes and for sale.

What is interesting about the hybrid?

Cucumber Rodnichok f1 is equally successfully cultivated in closed and unprotected ground with a difference in yield: ground greens are harvested up to 7 kg / m when growing², greenhouse during the formation of lashes on trellises - about 20 kg / m².

Description of the variety:

• Mid-season (50-55 days from germination).
• Requires pollination by insects or by hand.
• Indeterminate, the average length of the lashes is up to 3 m.
• Weak branching.
• Flowering is predominantly female, fruit-forming flowers are formed on the main stem and first-order shoots.
• Long-term fruiting, but the fruits do not overripe.
• Resistant to typical cultural diseases.

Fruit characteristics:

• The length of the green tea, which has reached commercial maturity, is 9–12 cm, the diameter is 5 cm, and the weight is about 100 g.
• The skin is thin, soft, of bright green color, with pronounced light longitudinal stripes.
• Spines are rare, pronounced.
• Cucumber pulp without voids, juicy, crispy, delicate taste with a pronounced aroma, tasting score - 5 points.
• Withstand transportation.

The fruits are not prone to overgrowing, overripening, with proper agricultural technology they do not lose their shape, do not taste bitter even at the end of the growing season.

Each knot forms 2 to 5 ovaries. Liana forms 4-5 full-fledged branches during the season, actively bearing fruit.

The purpose of the fruit is universal. Zelentsy is characterized by excellent taste fresh, salted or pickled.

An important feature of the Rodnichok variety, which multiplies its popularity, is its resistance to anthracnose, various spots, bacterial and viral infections.

Summer residents give excellent reviews of the merits of the hybrid, note the evenness of the fruits and their attractive appearance, excellent taste. It is noteworthy that the yield depends little on care, although timely watering and top dressing are still necessary. Even if it is not possible to build a greenhouse in the country, this variety grows without problems in the open field under a light film cover and gives an excellent harvest.

Another important advantage of the Spring is that it quickly recovers after sudden cold snaps or prolonged heat without loss of yield. It is also praised by summer residents of the steppe zone of the North Caucasus, where summer dry periods do not have a negative impact on the taste and external qualities of zelents.

But Rodnichk also has disadvantages:

• Agrarians note a short shelf life in a warm room, so the collected greens are immediately placed in a cool place.
• Another problem is the inability to collect their own seeds, which is typical for all hybrid varieties.However, the seeds of domestic breeding are quite inexpensive, and together with the unpretentiousness of the Spring, its cultivation is not expensive.
• The third difficulty arises with insufficient plant care: a moisture deficit causes the appearance of bitterness in the fruits, they are used only for conservation.

Features of agricultural technology

Agrotechnology of the Rodnichok variety almost completely coincides with the rules for growing other varieties and hybrids. However, summer residents note a pleasant feature - the seeds of these cucumbers do not need pre-sowing long-term heating, since they are characterized by the formation of plants with a large number of female flowers. The procedure is carried out only to destroy harmful bacteria, it lasts several minutes.

The manufacturer often produces the seeds of the Spring in a coated form - a colored outer shell. These seeds are not pretreated: everything they need, including disinfectants, is enclosed in this thin film.

The layout of the plants in the beds is 25-30 cm between the bushes, the row spacing is 70 cm. The seeding depth is 2 cm. When sowing, take into account that the Spring rises very quickly - by the end of the fourth day, 90% of the seeds germinate.

Water consumption rates for irrigation:

• before flowering - 4-5 l / m²;
• from the beginning of flowering to the end of fruiting - 9-10 l / m².

Fertilizers are applied according to standard regulations. For foliar feeding, the following composition is recommended:

• 1 g orthoboric acid;
• 30 g of potassium nitrate;
• 0.1 g zinc sulfate;
• 60 g superphosphate;
• 150 g of urea;
• 0.4 g of manganese sulfate;
• 10 liters of water.

When grown on trellises, lashes are formed. The main stem is pinched when it grows to the top of the trellis, but is sometimes left to hang down. The pinching of the lateral shoots is carried out over the third, sometimes the fifth leaf.

Powerful large-leaved vines independently deal with weeds, inhibiting their growth, so borage needs weeding only at first, while the plants are still small. The use of mulch reduces the time required for this work.

The crop is usually harvested every 2 days. First of all, it is necessary that a sufficient amount of moisture and nutrients necessary for normal development is supplied to the young greens that have set up. Also, cucumbers removed in time do not prevent the formation of new ovaries.

Because of their ease of care, the Rodnichok f1 cucumbers are popular with novice gardeners. However, even experienced summer residents, who are not afraid of difficulties, regularly plant this particular hybrid, since its reliability has been tested over the years - whatever the weather conditions, the harvest will surely be good.
